Baby's Berserk

Geïnspireerd door de New Wave uit de jaren 80 en de Y2K Indie-dansscene, brengt deze jonge Amsterdamse knalband het verleden naar nu. Baby’s Berserk gaat over de vrijheid nemen om te zijn wie je wilt zijn, over comfortabel zijn. In de grote traditie van Roxy Music, Throbbing Gristle en Malcolm McLaren draait Baby’s Berserk niet alleen om de scherpe muziek, maar ook om een ijzersterke eigen visuele stijl. Ze mixen hun geluiden graag met underground mode. Elektronische liedjes met een punk-attitude die vertellen dat het prima is om veel plezier te hebben in het leven. Eind 2023 brachten zij hun debuutalbum uit onder de bandnaam.

Inspired by the 80s New Wave and the Y2K Indie dance scene, this young Amsterdam band brings the past to the present. Baby's Berserk is about taking the freedom to be who you want to be, about being comfortable. In the great tradition of Roxy Music, Throbbing Gristle and Malcolm McLaren, Baby's Berserk is not only about sharp music, but also about its own strong visual style. They like to mix their sounds with underground fashion. Electronic songs with a punk attitude that tell you that it is okay to have a lot of fun. At the end of 2023 they released their debut album under the band name.

Yamila

Yamila, een Spaanse componist, celliste, zangeres en producent, beweegt vloeiend tussen elektronische en analoge muziek, traditie en innovatie. Haar tweede album, "Visions" (Umor-Rex), verkent de transformerende kracht van muziek en mengt barok, Spaanse folklore, hedendaagse elektronische geluiden, en een samenwerking met de New Yorkse muzikant Rafael Anton Irisarri. Yamila, gevestigd tussen Brussel en Madrid, duwt de grenzen van gevestigde artistieke vormen door samen te werken met beeldende kunstenaars, choreografen en filmmakers.

Yamila, a Spanish composer, cellist, singer, and producer, deftly straddles the worlds of electronic and analog music, tradition and innovation. Her second album, "Visions" (Umor-Rex), explores the transformative power of music, blending baroque, Spanish folklore, contemporary electronic sounds, and a collaboration with New York musician Rafael Anton Irisarri. Based between Brussels and Madrid, Yamila pushes the boundaries of established artistic forms through collaboration with visual artists, choreographers, and filmmakers.

Kaito

Labalou Kaito Winse komt uit een jeli-familie in Lankoué, de Sourou-regio in het noorden van Burkina Faso. Hij is een multi-instrumentalist en zanger, en toont zijn vaardigheid met instrumenten als de kalebas, mondboog, Fulani-fluit, kora en sprekende drum. Zijn krachtige stem doet denken aan operastijlen. Hij houdt de Fulani-tradities in ere, werkt samen met Tartar(e) en is lid van de experimentele noise punkband Avalanche Kaito. Tijdens PRESENT kunnen we echter genieten van zijn boeiende soloperformance, waarbij hij een sterke band met het publiek opbouwt die verder gaat dan het podium.

Labalou Kaito Winse hails from a jeli family in Lankoué, northern Burkina Faso's Sourou region. He is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, showcasing his skillful use of instruments like the calabash, mouthbow, Fulani flute, kora, and talking drum while showcasing a powerful voice reminiscent of opera styles. He preserves Fulani traditions, collaborating with Tartar(e) and being a member of the experimental noise punk band Avalanche Kaito. However, during PRESENT we will witness his captivating solo performance, where his skill for connecting with the audience goes beyond the stage. 

Nate Wooley

Nate Wooley, afkomstig uit Oregon en nu New York, verlegt de grenzen van de trompet en heeft samengewerkt met bekende muzikanten, waaronder Yoshi Wada en John Zorn. Hij vestigde zijn naam door in 2019 als solist te debuteren bij de New York Philharmonic en kreeg wereldwijde erkenning voor zijn unieke stijl. Hij zet zich tevens in voor de muziek middels Mutual Aid Music, wat zich richt op vernieuwende en collaboratieve benaderingen van compositie.

Nate Wooley, hailing from Oregon and now New York, redefines trumpet boundaries and has collaborated with notable musicians, including Yoshi Wada and John Zorn. He made his mark by debuting as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic in 2019, earning international acclaim for his idiosyncratic style. He is also dedicated to music evolution through Mutual Aid Music, a concept aimed at innovative and collaborative approaches to composition

Brutter

De broers Christian en Fredrik Wallumrød van Brutter brengen een soort ongemak met hun mechanische en niet-dansbare muziek, waarbij ze de grenzen van machines op nieuwe manieren verkennen. Ze gebruiken mechanische percussie en onconventionele synthesizergeluiden om te experimenteren met de repetitieve, symmetrische loops die je vaak in elektronische muziek hoort. Hun samenspel verstoort de gebruikelijke ritmes en maakt ons bewust van onregelmatigheden in de tijd, en benadrukt ons verlangen naar symmetrie.

Brothers Christian and Fredrik Wallumrød of Brutter deliver discomfort through their mechanical, undanceable music where the limits of machines are tested to new extremes. Using mechanical percussion and unconventional synthesizer sounds, Brutter challenges the electronic music trend of repetitive, symmetrical loops. Their interplay disrupts rhythms, making us aware of time irregularities, shedding light on the human desire for symmetry.

Karel van der Eijk

Karel van der Eijk is een kunstenaar die installaties maakt met geluid en mechanica als centraal thema. Zijn sculpturale werken ontstaan uit diverse materialen, zelfs afvalzakken. Het publiek kan worden uitgenodigd om deel te nemen aan het proces; de werken kunnen vaak met een simpele druk op de knop in beweging worden gezet, terwijl ze op andere momenten als muziekinstrumenten worden bespeeld

Karel van der Eijk is an artist that makes installations centring around sound and mechanics. His sculptural works arise from an array of odd materials such as trash bags. Inviting the audience to take part in the process, the works can often be set in motion with a simple push of a button, while in other instances, they are played like musical instruments.

Pierre Bastien

Pierre Bastien, een Franse componist, multi-instrumentalist en installatiekunstenaar, staat bekend om zijn tientallen jaren van creatieve bijdragen aan muziek. Een van deze bijdragen is het zelfsturende orkest genaamd Mecanium, waar traditionele instrumenten worden gecombineerd met mechanische elementen. Zijn eigenzinnige aanpak van de wereld van geluid heeft hem erkenning opgeleverd en samengewerkingen met prominente kunstenaars, waaronder Robert Wyatt en Issey Miyake. Voor PRESENT zal Pierre een geluidsinstallatie in de expositieruimte presenteren.

Pierre Bastien, a French composer, multi-instrumentalist, and installation artist, is known for his decades of inventive contributions to music. One of these is the self-steering orchestra called Mecanium, which blends traditional instruments with mechanical elements. His odd-ball approach to the world of sound has earned him recognition and collaborations with prominent artists, including Robert Wyatt and Issey Miyake. For PRESENT, Pierre will showcase a sound installation in the exhibition space.
